Peter Breithut was an Austrian artist. Until 1913/1914, he worked primarily as a medalist, after which he turned to painting and graphics. Breithut received training as a goldsmith, in 1887/1888 he attended a special course in chasing art at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts with S. Schwarz, and in 1897/1998 he briefly studied sculpture at the Vienna Academy with E. Hellmer. After studying in France in 1912 and 1913, he worked primarily as a painter and graphic artist. From 1902 to 1921, he was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus, and until 1914 he also exhibited at the Vienna Secession. From 1920 to 1930, Breithut was a member of the Hagenbund, a memorial exhibition with watercolours and portrait drawings was organized there for him in 1930. He was married to the painter Eugenie Breithut-Munk. Portrait medal selection: “Archduke Franz Salvator”, “Kaspar von Zumbusch”, “Court actress Babette Devrient”. Some of his works are included in the collections of Albertina, Vienna Museum, coin cabinet of the Vienna Art History Museum, medal collection Museum Francisco Carolinum Linz.
