Hazánkban Vörösmarty volt Shakespeare első és legnagyobb hatású népszerűsítője, fordítója, legalaposabb ismerője és követője. „…igen kívánatos, hogy a nagy brit költő jelesb műveivel minél többen megküzdjenek, mert nem tartózkodunk kimondani, hogy Shakespeare jó fordítása a leggazdagabb szépliteratúrának is felér legalább a felével.” Petőfi Sándorral és Arany Jánossal leosztották egymás között a drámákat. E műhöz 1847 végén fogott hozzá, de a forradalom és egyéb munkái miatt csak 1854-ben tért vissza a fordításhoz.
Korabeli, bordázott gerincű félbőr-kötésben, címkével. Beragasztott ex librisekkel.
