Zsolnay Secession-style Ornamental Vase
Wheel-thrown, hand-shaped white ceramic. On opaque, metalescent and transparent base with coloured eosin glazes, cherry tree with fox-gloves painted with coloured glazes. Outlines recessed and trailed with eosin glazes, intervals covered and left in a shiny form during matting acid-treatment (so-called Tiffany technique). Neck excessively restored. Design: Sándor Apáti Abt, 1903. Written near form drawing: “Freehand, school work, design of Abt Sándor, 25 Nov 1903.” Decoration design: 5 Decor Book, variant of drawing no. 2955, around 1904. Marked on bottom: pressed in clay 7102 (form number) and round, embossed, stamp-like branding the same colour as the environment and coated with thick glaze. Zsolnay, Pécs, around 1904.
