Georg Saatzer was an Austrian painter and graphic artist. He worked in oil painting, watercolour, pen and ink drawing, linocut, etching, and lithography. Saatzer studied from 1944 to 1950 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Christian Ludwig Martin and Sergius Pauser, graduating with a degree in painting. In 1956, he continued his studies at the Salzburg Summer Academy in the "School of Seeing" under Oskar Kokoschka. From 1950 to 1961, he was a member of the Gemeinschaft bildender Künstler (Community of Fine Artists). From 1961, he was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. From 1949 to 1985, he taught art and craft education at GRG 12 Rosasgasse and lived in Vienna-Hietzing. Saatzer found many of his motifs on walks and captured them in pencil or watercolor in sketchbooks. His preferred subject matter was historical buildings, cityscapes, and landscapes. He found his motifs in Vienna, but also on his travels through Austria, northern Italy, and Ticino. Due to their true-to-life nature, many of his works have both artistic and documentary value, as many of the buildings depicted were later altered or demolished. He was also interested in depicting animals, which he found in the Schönbrunn Zoo, the Lainzer Tiergarten, and on farms. Saatzer also worked as an illustrator of children's and young adult books and as a portrait painter. In 1996, he was awarded the "Golden Laurel" by the Vienna Künstlerhaus. Purchases have been made by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Arts, the Cultural Office of the City of Vienna, the Lower Austrian State Museum, the District Museum Vienna 14, the Cultural Office of St. Pölten, and the Gars-Thunau Local History Museum.

PLEASE NOTE:
The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items.
The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
