In 1792, the Piarist priest-author became the field chaplain of Baron Barco Vince's regiment, allegedly driven by a desire for adventure. In the following years, he toured the Low Countries and along the Rhine with them. His poems of varied content - first published in 1798 - were written based on his experiences and impressions here. This piece is the extended second edition.
