A szerző (1720, Selmecbánya - 1792, Bécs.) jezsuita szerzetes, a legnevesebb magyar csillagászok egyike volt. Kolozsváron matematikát tanított, majd a bécsi csillagvizsgálót vezette, később az itteni egyetemen oktatott csillagászatot. 1768-ban rendtársával, Sajnovics Jánossal a dán király meghívására Lappföldön végzett méréseket. A diákokat az általános matematikába bevezető tankönyve először 1755-ben jelent meg Kolozsváron. Központi 148/30.
