The Austrian painter, sculptor, and graphic artist Viktor Planckh created figure paintings, portraits, and landscapes in clear, simple forms, close to New Objectivity. As a sculptor, he also worked in bronze and terracotta, he also worked as a fresco painter. From 1921 to 1926, Planckh studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts under Franz Cizek, Adolf Böhm, Erich Mallina, Viktor Schufinsky, Anton Josef Ritter von Kenner, and Bertold Löffler. In 1927, Planckh received a Czechoslovak travel scholarship and traveled to Italy (Rome, Florence, Naples, and Palermo). From 1927 to 1938, he was a member of the Hagenbund (Hagenbund). In 1926, he traveled to Paris, and in 1929 to Budapest, Belgrade, Athens, and Thessaloniki. In 1933, Planckh married an American and subsequently traveled to the United States, where he participated in exhibitions. In 1935, he participated in collectives at the Boyer Gallery in Philadelphia and the Weyhe Gallery in New York. In 1936, he was in Moscow. In 1939, he briefly shared a studio in Vienna with Karl Stemolak. In 1941, Plankch was drafted into the army and subsequently sent to Greece, where he fell ill and died. Plankch's works are included in the following collections: Belvedere, Vienna, Albertina, Vienna, and the Museum of the City of Vienna/WienMuseum.
