Universalis Tabula Iuxta Ptolemaeum
Second state of the Ptolemaic world (representing Europe, Africa and most parts of Asia) by Gerard Mercator. First published in the 1578 edition of Mercator's "Tabulae geographicae Cl. Ptolemaei". The border had been re-engraved for the 1695 issue and the artist decorated his work with the allegorical figures of the four elements: the Fire as Zeus, the Air as Hera, the Water as Poseidon, and the Earth as Gaia. Dimensions: 345 x 480 (440 x 525) mm. Fine, clear copy.
