Tabula Moderna Poloniae Ungariae Bohemiae Germaniae Russiae Lithv(ani)ae
Scarce, first state map of Central Europe by Antonio Salamanca. Based on Nicolaus Cusanus' (Niccolo Cusano) manuscript work, influenced by Marco Beneventano's map (1507) and relying on Bernhard Wapowski's topography to accurately represent Poland. The title and some climatic data located outside the map-field. Poland, Hungary, Bohemia and Germany are situated in the centre of the map, which extends on the north from the Baltic and North Seas to the Alps and the Mediterranian Sea in the south. The copies of this map were presumably bound in Lafreri atlases because Salamanca was his partner. It is one of the rarest of all maps of Bohemia as it has been only twice on auction in the past 40 years.
Fine, clean copy.
Dimensions: 280 x 370 (380 x 485) mm.
