Schuster János (1777-1838) a budai egyetemi tanszék és a botanikus kert vezetője, a kémiában és botanikában egyaránt jártas orvosdoktor. 1831. február 20-án az Akadémia rendes tagjává választotta, különös tekintettel a vegytani magyar műnyelv megalkotása körül szerzett érdemeire. Már 1808-ban kiadott egy „Terminologia Botanicá”-t. Ő volt az első az egyetemi oktatásban, aki szemléltető eszközöket is felhasznált.
