A szennylapon zöld tintával a szerző sorai: „Nagy Zoltánnak // barátsággal és szeretettel // Radnóti Miklós // 1938. december 2.”
A dedikáció címzettje valószínűleg Nagy Zoltán (1884–1945) költő, a Nyugat első nemzedékének a tagja. Nagy Zoltán szintén zsidó származású költő volt, s habár a nyilas uralmat túlélte, 1945 nyarán meggyilkolta egy bujkáló fasiszta.
