Ladányi, Imre (Emory Ladanyi, 1902-1986): Self-Portrait with Ila

Born in Kecskemét (Hungary) Imre Ladányi studied drawing and painting under Vilmos Aba-Novák simultaneously with his medical studies. Since 1929 he had lived in the United States working as a dermatologist. He became a renown artist as early as the 1930s. One of his landscapes was on show at the US pavilion of the World Expo in New York, which was reviewed by several magazines, the New York Times among them. In World War II he volunteered for service in the U.S. Army. From the late 1950s on his paintings were more and distanced from realism. Several public collections in Hungary and the US hold his artworks.
