Skull Clock - Memento Mori

In opening, fire-gilded, skull-shape bronze case, tipping spindle movement with snap fastener, enamel dial with painted Roman numerals. Dial with painted decoration symbolizing the progress of time in middle, back bearing plate with Johannes Strauss maker’s mark. Engraved text on top of skull, in it chronogram: “non fIDas horIs forsnaC est VLtIMa nesVIs”, read together: 1759 In working condition, hands are replacements, key missing. German, 1759. S.: 3.6 cm × 4 cm × 4 cm
