Illirizmus:1835-1849: horvát politikai mozgalom, mely a magyar reformmozgalmakhoz hasonlóan nemzeti és egyesítési, polgári törekvésekkel lépett föl. - Az illírek ókori, balkán-tengermelléki nép, területüket Róma Kr. e. 168-ban elfoglalta. Horvátok az avarok segédcsapataiként érkeztek a Balkánra. A megmaradt és más népekkel keveredett illírek Dalmácia olaszul beszélő városi lakosságát alkották, nem szlávok, nincs közük a szláv horvátokhoz. Az illirizmus a dákoromanizmushoz hasonló nemzeti mítosz.
