Gastaldi, Giacomo: Austria e Ungaria

Rome, cca. 1560k. Dimensions: 285 x 415 (310 x 480) mm.
Map of Austria and Hungary by Giacomo Gastaldi. Published in Antonio Lafreri’s atlas in Rome (around 1560). The most striking of its cartographical mistakes are the strange depictions of Lake Balaton and Lake Fertő and the double riverbed of the Tisza. In addition to the topographical elements, the engraver illustrated his work with trees and a fictional bird’s-eye view of the cities showing their size and shape
With slightly narrow margin at the top, but apart from this fine, clean copy.
