Florian Jakowitsch was an Austrian painter, draftsman and glass artist. In 1939, Jakowitsch received an apprenticeship as a metal aircraft builder at Plant II of the Wiener Neustädter Flugzeugwerke. He also attended a sculpture course at the Wiener Neustadt adult education center with the painter Franz Erntl (1902 - 1990) and the painter and sculptor Hans Vonmetz (1905 - 1975). Both recommended that he be admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He passed the entrance exam in 1940 with his “Expulsion from Paradise”. He gave up his teaching. In the same year he worked as a volunteer for the sculptor Josef Panigl at the Meidlinger Cemetery in Vienna. Jakowitsch then studied for two semesters as an extraordinary student with the animal and landscape painter Carl Fahringer (1874 - 1952) and attended the evening act with Herbert Boeckl (1894 - 1966). Jakowitsch's sketchy “Child's Head” at the academy's student exhibition was judged “extremely decadent” by the painter Karl Sterrer (1885 – 1972). In 1941, Jakowitsch completed his studies. In 1941, Jakowitsch and his fellow student Fritz Riedl (1923 – 2012) were called up to the Reichsarbeitsdienst (Reich Labour Service, RAD). He developed a melancholy while reading “Genius and Madness” by Cesare Lombroso, as a consequence of which he was declared unfit and admitted to a closed institution in Heidelberg. In 1942, he was transferred to a “large sanatorium” in Stuttgart, where he met the painter Anton Kolig (1886 – 1950) and from May 1942 was allowed to study with Kolig at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts. He attended the nude course with Hans Spiegel (1894 – 1966) and the graphics class with Hermann Mayrhofer (1901 – 1976), who introduced him to the teachings of the art theorist Gustaf Britsch (1879 – 1923). In 2015, Jakowitsch had an exhibition in St Peter an der Sperr in Wiener Neustadt entitled “Fleisch & Transzendenz”. Works: 1958 stained glass in the Landegg church, 1960 altar cross, stations of the Cross and portal mosaic of the Felixdorf church, 1962 stained glass window of the funeral hall in the Baden City Cemetery in Baden near Vienna, 1961/1963 glass window in the Hochwolkersdorf parish church, 1968 concrete glass window in the Church of the Resurrection in Nuremberg, ceramic wall “Life of the Nun and Philosopher Edith Stein” in the Bundesgymnasium Zehnergasse in Wiener Neustadt, altar wall with large concrete glass window in the parish church Heart of Our Lady in Wiener Neustadt, stained glass window of the Lutheran Christ Church in Völkermarkt in Carinthia. Awards: Golden Medal of Honour For Services to the State of Lower Austria, Culture Prize of the State of Lower Austria, Decoration of Honour of the City of Wiener Neustadt. Further artists and styles: Landscape, gouache, oil, watercolour, village view, Johann Georg Platzer, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Friedrich von Amerling, Otto Wagner, Eduard Ameseder, Carl O’Lynch of Town, Richard Gerstl, Max Domenig, Robin Christian Andersen, Egon Schiele, Paul Kassecker, Hans Kneslm Heinz Leinfellner, Rudolf Hausner, Joannis Avramidis, Maximilian Melcher, Alfred Hrdlicka, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Arik Brauer, Wolfgang Hollegha, Anton Lehmden, Josef Mikl, Ernst Fuchs, Armin Pramstaller, Cornelius Kolig, Meina Schellander, Franz West, Gottfried Helnwein, Manfred Deix, Heimo Zobernig, Gunter Damisch, Daniel Richter, Monica Bonvicini, dorit Margreiter, Herbert Boeckl, Josef Dobrowsky, Albert Paris Gütersloh, Willy Eisenschitz
