Borisz Eichenbaum (1886-1959) a XX. század kimagasló irodalomtudósa volt, a Sklovszkij, Jakobson, Zsirmunszkij és mások nevével fémjelzett ún. "formalista iskola" jeles képviselője. Egyaránt jelentőset alkotott az irodalomtörténetírásban, az irodalomelméletben, nagyszerű művelője volt a textológiának és mestere-tanítója irodalmárnemzedékek egész sorának.
