The painter Eduard Schleich was born in 1812 and moved to Munich in 1823 to become a painter. After he was rejected from the academy, he continued his education as a self-taught artists, Christian Etzdorf, Christian Morgenstern, and Carl Rottmann were his role models. He also took a strong interest in Dutch painting. He undertook many inspirational trips to Germany and to Italy, France, and the Netherlands. In 1851, he took a trip to Paris with Carl Ebert, Dietrich Langko and Carl Spitzweg.
