Douglas, Lord Alfred: Oscar Wilde and myself
London, 1914. John Long. 320p.+14pl(s).
The author, nicknamed “Bosie”, was Oscar Wilde’s great love, and it may be said without exaggeration that she was the person who had the greatest influence on the writer’s fate. Their stormy relationship began in 1895. Following a denunciation by Douglas’ father, Wilde was sent to the prison in Reading for two years. The value of our volume is enhanced by the fact that the first letter contains an extensive, full-page dedication from the author, addressed to his friend, Thomas William Hodgson Crosland, poet-journalist.
Original cloth with minor restored defect on spine.
