Csaplovics János (1780–1847) történeti, jogi és földrajzi író, a magyar néprajztudomány egyik előfutára. Az ethnographia szót először Csaplovics János használta Mo.-on a népéletre és a nép kultúrájára vonatkozó tudomány megnevezésére. Többnyire Bécsben élt. A verseit szlovákul, értekezéseit magyarul és németül írta. Legjelentősebb műve Magyarország néprajzi leírása. Jelen, rendkívül ritkán felbukkanó munkája az angol és a magyar jogrend összevetése. A címben jelzett melléklet „A magyarországi németekről” írott tanulmány a 118. oldaltól.
Korabeli, aranyozott gerincű félvászon kötésben, körül márványozott élmetszéssel.
