Comenius, Joh(annes) Amos: Janua lingvae Latinae reserata aurea, sive, seminarium lingvae Latinae et scientiarum omnium... in Hungaricam Linguam translata, Per Stephanum Benjamin Szilagyi.
Leutschoviae, 1724. (Brewer ny.) (20)+185+(9)p. 4 leaves replaced by copies.
The Czech-born author was one of the pioneers of pedagogical literature. His first significant work, the "Janua", is an encyclopedia compiled for teaching the Latin language. During its writing, Comenius used a similar work from the Irish Jesuits as basis, but unlike them, he connected the teaching of the language with the presentation of the world's phenomena. The work was first published in 1631 in Leszno, Poland. It quickly became popular throughout Europe and was translated into 16 languages. In Hungary, it was published in Brassó in 1638, in Latin and German, and then quickly spread in Transylvania and the Protestant areas of Royal Hungary. It was first published in Hungarian in 1643.
Modern half leather. Four leaves replaced by copies.
