Carte D'Amerique, dressée pour l'usage du Roy.
Map of America by Philippe Buache published in 1780 and based on Guillaume de L'Isle's same-titled depiction, revised and published by the cartographer's son-in-law in 1763. Our item is the latest state with the same cartouche. As the imprint next to the cartouche shows (Corrigée et Augmentée par M. Buache en 1780.), probably Jean Nicholas Buache revised his uncle's work and added an inset map — based upon the discoveries of Behring and Tchirikow — representing the northwestern area of America. Jean-Claude Dezauche — who focused on editing and republishing the earlier maps of Phillipe Buache and Guillaume de L'Isle, which he acquired from their heir in 1780 — deleted that text from his first issue and modified the cartouche and the inset. Dimensions: 490 x 615 (545 x 770) mm. Original outline colour. Light discolouring around the edges, some small stains on the margin.
