A konzervatív író 1849 után a kormányzat alkalmazásában állt, mégis gyakran segített a hatalom által zaklatott íróknak. 1857-ben ismerkedett meg Széchenyivel, többször meglátogatta Döblingben. Írásában a szemtanú perspektívájából írja meg Széchenyi utolsó éveit.
