A szerző angol műfordító, a magyar irodalom nagy barátja volt. 1832-től az MTA levelező, 1870-től a Kisfaludy Társaság rendes tagja lett. 1837-ben járt Magyarországon, ahol találkozott Toldy Ferenccel és Vörösmartyval.
Korabeli, aranyozott gerincű, álbordás félbőr-kötésben. 194 mm.
