William Beattie (1793-1875) skót orvos, költő és utazó szűkebb pátriájában, majd távolibb tájakon tett körutazásai után a Duna mentét is járta be. Az utazásáról szóló beszámolóit William Bartlett rajzai kísérik. A képes album a Duna forrásától Fekete-tenger torkolatáig elhelyezkedő települések acélba metszett látképeivel ad érzékletes benyomást az 1840-es évek Duna-menti városairól és tájairól. A kötetben sok egyéb mellett Ulm, Passau, Melk, Bécs, Pozsony, Pétervárad, Belgrád, Galambóc, a Kazán-szoros igen érzékletes látképeit tanulmányozhatjuk. Esztergom, Visegrád, Buda, Pest és a hajóhíd látványa mellett a hitélet, a népszokások, helyi viseletek, a folyami élet számos egykori részletébe avatnak be. A szöveget a táblák mellett hetvenhárom szövegközti fametszetű illusztráció is díszíti. A díszcímlap foxing foltos. Az első előzéken könyvjegy.
