A bécsi születésű Plenk 1770-től a nagyszombati, majd a budai egyetemen tanított gyakorlati sebészetet és szülészetet. 1797-ben magyar nemességet kapott. Korának rendkívül népszerű szakírója, mintegy 50 orvosi munka szerzője.
