A rézmetszeteket Joseph Jäger készítette. Az emblemata alapja egy allegorikus kép, amelyhez lemma, motto vagy inspiratio elnevezéssel egy képcím járult. A kép alatt pedig vers fejtette ki a kép értelmét, adott kulcsot a képcím megértéséhez és vont le mindezekből bölcs tanulságokat. E műfaj alkotásaiból összeállított könyv kapta a görögös többes számnak megfelelően az emblemata nevet.
Korabeli, díszesen aranyozott gerincű, valódi bordás egészbőr-kötésben, jó állapotban.
