A saját maga által illusztrált állattörténetek személyes megfigyelésein alapulnak; korai vadászati időszaka után az állatok után nem vadászként, hanem állatvédőként és az állatok életének megfigyelőjeként járt. Természetjáró munkásságának hatása a szárba szökkenő cserkészmozgalomra és az állatvédelemre egyaránt felbecsülhetetlen. A mű első kiadása 1898-ban jelent meg. A szövegközti rajzokon kívül kötetünket további huszonkilenc részletgazdag, egész oldalas illusztráció díszíti. Aranyozott, illusztrált kiadói egészvászon kötésben, a gerincen felül apró sérülés. Körülvágatlan, szép példány.
