John Hanning Speke (1827-1864) angol katonatiszt és felfedező beszámolója 1858-1863 közötti kelet-afrikai felfedezőútjáról, amelynek célja a Nílus forrásának megtalálása volt. A néprajzi és földrajzi felfedezésekben, a helyi konfliktusok vázolásában gazdag beszámoló egyben a szerző vitatott hamita-elméletének rögzítése; állítása szerint bizonyítékok szólnak a bibliai eredetű hamita törzsek kelet-afrikai folytonosságára. A munka először 1863-ban látott napvilágot. Századeleji kiadásunk gazdagon díszített díszcímlap-párossal nyit, oldalszámozáson belül néhány egész oldalas térképvázlat és egész oldalas illusztráció kíséri a szöveget. (Everyman's Library: Travel & Topography.) Díszesen aranyozott gerincű, vaknyomásos, gerincén alul enyhén sérült kiadói egészvászon kötésben. Jó példány.
