(Jami, Nur al-Din Abd al-Rahman) Dschami, Mewlana Abdurrahman: كتاب يوسف و زلیخا – Joseph und Suleïcha, historisch-romantisches Gedicht aus dem Persischen des ~ übersetzt und durch Anmerkungen erläutert von Vincenz Edlem von Rosenzweig
Wien, 1824. Anton Schmid. (6)+VIII+(2)+227p.
The Iranian scholar and poet, Abdurrahman Jami (the Turks call him Molla Cami for short), a member of the Naqshbandi order, has a very special place in Islamic literature. Adhering to the tradition that preceded him, he greatly influenced his successors. This work is known as a masterpiece of Sufi mystical poetry.
The " Joseph und Suleïcha " is based on the story of Joseph and Potiphar's wife (from Genesis). However, it shows how a religious community takes a story from a sacred text and modifies it with a touching ending to the appropriate religious-cultural setting.
Modern cloth. 10 leaves restored (with some text loss), and several stained (occasionally causing illegible text).
