(Geographia particolare d'una gran parte dell' Europa…)
Scarce map of Hungary, Austria and Dalmatia by Giacomo Gastaldi. The work depicts the Danube river basin and was first published in 1559 on two separate sheets, which the cartographer designed in a way that made it possible to use them independently from each other (our copy is the one showing the Western region). In 1560, Antonio Lafreri obtained the right of publishing, and Gastaldi completed the two sheets with the representation of the eastern part of Southern Europe (see lot 166). The engraver, Fabio Licino illustrated his work with a galleon and a compass rose besides the topographical elements and city signs. Dimensions: 355 x 520 (455 x 605) mm. Fine, clean copy.
