The author of the poem was the chief clerk of the city of Szeged and, in 1849, the editor-in-chief of the “Tiszavidéki Újság”. The work, written for the national guards of Szeged, may have been composed in June or July 1848, during the time when the government mobilised the national guards of the southern counties and cities against the Serbian insurgents. Since this event occurred only in October, it is possible that the text dates from that period. Based on the content, this cannot be determined unequivocally.
