Julia Pardoe (1806-162) angol írónő, több érdekes úti beszámolót írt Portugáliáról, Törökországról. 1839-ben Bécset és Magyarországot látogatta meg, ahol, mint már neves írót mind az udvarnál, mind a politika és az irodalom előkelő férfiai (Eötvös, Deák), kitüntető szívességgel fogadták. Magyarországi utazásainak eredménye lett a ,,The city of the Magyar or Hungary and its Institutions in 1839 and 1840' című meglehetős tájékozottsággal, és nemzetünk iránt nagy rokonszenvvel írt munkája.
